Two-alarm fire damages plantain chip factory
TAMPA (FOX 13) - A fire damaged a plantain chip factory warehouse and closed Causeway Boulevard Saturday evening.
The fire at Plantain Products Company in the 5800 Block of Causeway Blvd. was reported at 5 p.m.
When firefighters got to the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building and flames inside the warehouse.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue says, due to the metal construction of the building and extreme heat inside, a defensive fire attack was performed on the structure.
Three ladder trucks and firefighters with hand lines battled the fire from outside.
It took almost four hours to bring the fire under control.
There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Eastbound Causeway at S 58th St. remained closed Saturday evening. Motorists were asked to use caution in the area.
