Two killed in separate crashes on I-4 in Hillsborough County

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating two fatal crashes that happened on I-4 in Hillsborough County on Sunday.

The first crash happened around 6:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 17 in Plant City. Troopers said it involved a motorcyclist. Two eastbound lanes were closed for several hours after the crash, but they have since reopened.

Another deadly crash was reported about an hour later on I-4 at the I-75 interchange. FHP said a pickup truck collided with another vehicle when the pickup truck driver tried to change lanes. It caused the truck to rotate, leave the roadway and overturn.

The driver, a 31-year-old man from Apollo Beach, was taken to the hospital but later died. The other driver was not injured.

The eastbound lanes are still closed while troopers investigate, but cars are getting by on the shoulder. There are heavy traffic delays in the area.

There were patches of fog reported on some parts of I-4 Sunday morning, but it's unclear if the fog contributed to the crashes.
