Vehicle lodged under 18-wheeler, 1 dead
ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - An intersection near New Heights Elementary School will be shut down for hours after a deadly crash early Wednesday morning.
St. Pete police say it happened at the intersection of 38th Avenue North and 40th Street shortly before 6 a.m.
Reports say a car collided with an 18-wheeler, and then became lodged underneath.
The man inside the car is said to have died. Two people in the semi were not injured.
It is unclear what caused the crash at this time, but fog and wet roads may have been a factor.
Crews will remain on scene as they work to remove the car from beneath the truck. They say it is completely crumbled below the truck's trailer.
Parents dropping children off at the nearby elementary school were being advised to approach from the east.
FOX 13 will continue with updates as they become available.
