14-year-old burglary suspect arrested after jumping into creek while being tracked by victim: MCSO

Manatee County deputies arrested a 14-year-old car burglary suspect after a man spotted a group of people rummaging through his pickup truck, then tracked the teen with a flashlight as he jumped into a creek, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim and his neighbor shouted at the three burglars around 3 a.m. Monday near Cedar Hammock Creek in the Bradenton area, deputies said.

MCSO said there was a brief standoff after deputies arrived as the suspect tried to hide under bushes before surrendering.

Minutes later, another 14-year-old boy was found soaked and shivering a few blocks away with a cut on his leg.

Deputies say the cut likely came from him running and hiding in the creek. He was taken to a local hospital, but has not yet been arrested.

A third possible suspect remains on the run and investigators say they are looking into a few other burglaries to see if the cases are related.

The first suspect is facing one count of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, a third-degree felony.
