Video shows pharmacy tech stuffing pills down shirt, deputies say

After just a few days on the job, deputies in Volusia County say, a pharmacy tech was caught on video slipping prescription pills down her shirt.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the owner of Pierson Community Pharmacy called deputies back on May 25 after an inventory check revealed that several oxycodone and amphetamine pill bottles were missing.

A check of surveillance footage showed pharmacy technician Katie Jean Williams taking bottles out of the pharmacy’s safe and hiding them down her shirt, detectives say. Williams, 28, was arrested that day on charges of grand theft and trafficking in oxycodone.

But after a follow-up audit revealed even more pills missing, investigators say they found more video evidence of Williams swiping pills five previous times. She was re-arrested early this morning on an additional count of trafficking in oxycodone and four counts of possession of a Schedule IV substance.

Investigators say Williams had only been employed by the pharmacy about a month.

She was being held on $70,000 bail as of this morning.
