Bradenton teen arrested for firing flare gun onto field

The Bradenton Police Department released video showing a flare nearly hitting soccer players in the middle of a match on Nov. 21. A teen is accused of shooting the flare gun.

A fiery shot from a flare gun nearly hit players in the middle of a soccer match, and Bradenton police say a 16-year-old admitted to firing the shot.

According to investigators, the teen and his friends had just been kicked out of the match on the campus of a private school on Nov. 21 for "disruptive behavior."

The teen fired the flare gun from the passenger seat of a vehicle, police said. Video released by the police department shows the flare narrowly missing players.

The flare burned two holes in the field's artificial turf, causing more than $1,000 in damage, police said.

Officers questioned the teen, who admitted to firing the flare gun and said he was remorseful.

The suspect, who is not a student at the private school, faces a felony criminal mischief charge, along with one count of misdemeanor culpable negligence.
