It’s a very Florida scene: A beautiful beach sunset, interrupted briefly by that one storm, drifting just offshore. That’s the view that Brandon Thrift captured in a time-lapse video from Bowditch Point Park in Fort Myers Beach on Tuesday.

Florida’s summers are famous for pop-up storms, and Tuesday evening was no exception.  Thrift said he sometimes travels from Sarasota to Cape Coral and Fort Myers to catch the sunset, and he had just set up his iPhone when the shower breezed through.

“I got very lucky last night with that storm system forming so fast,” he told FOX 13.

He got a bonus, too: Dramatic lightning scrawling its way across the sky.  Slowed down, the video shows one many-tentacled bolt of lightning carving its way in multiple directions before striking the water and briefly illuminating the dark beach.
