What is cryptocurrency? 'Crypto 101' educator shares insight
TAMPA, Fla. - President-elect Donald Trump has said he wants the United States to be the cryptocurrency capital of the world, and that's raising interest in digital forms of money.
Ryan Horst is an international cryptocurrency educator. His business is called Altcoin Pro. FOX 13 asked Horst to give a crash course in cryptocurrency: Crypto 101.
Horst says to better understand the concept of cryptocurrency, we need to change our concept of what money is. For centuries, it has constantly changed.
Money hasn't always been cash. That's how Horst says we should view crypto; it's an evolution in money.

"The majority of people don't fully understand what money is, even though we spend it every single day," Horst said.
Bitcoin is the most well known of the cryptocurrencies, but there are many more.
Horst says his goal is to educate people about what cryptocurrency is and how not to be scared of it.
"Know how to navigate this space," Horst said. "Because if you don't you're going to get burnt."
