Winter Haven police search for hit-and-run driver who left victim seriously injured

Police are looking for the driver who seriously injured a man in a Winter Haven hit-and-run crash over the weekend.

It happened late Friday afternoon on the 1200 block of 5th Street Southeast. A video from a home surveillance camera shows the man stepping into the street just as a car is coming.

The force of the impact sent the man into the air, landing about 50 feet away. The car stops for a quick second and takes off.

"This is someone who has a cold heart," Winter Haven police spokesperson Jamie Brown told FOX 13. "Whatever the circumstance may be, that is someone’s loved one. That is a human being, and you just don’t treat a human being like that."

Looking at a home surveillance photo form a second neighbor, police say the driver was in a bright blue Toyota C-HR, now presumably with damage to the front passenger side and fender.

You could earn up to a $3,000 reward if you provide information leading to an arrest. They ask you to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-8477.
