'Winter Wonderland' holiday tradition continues in Clearwater

In Clearwater, there is a beloved holiday tradition that's marking its 31st anniversary.

For three decades, the event "Winter Wonderland" has been a holiday beacon of generosity and community spirit. It brings joy to children and families in need during the holiday season.

"This is a free community event," said Pam Ryan Anderson, the executive director of Clearwater Community Volunteers. "It's free admission, and we take an empty park. It's nothing but grass. And we build an entire village here for the community to come enjoy."

Started by the Church of Scientology and the Clearwater Community Volunteers, the event raises donations of food and toys for the Pinellas County Police Athletic League in Lealman, ensuring no child goes without during the holidays.

"It's our contribution to the community, and it brings so many people and gives them joy and inspires them to enjoy the holidays, basically," Anderson stated.

Winter Wonderland is more than just a donation drive. It's a magical experience for families, who can visit Santa, decorate cookies with Mrs. Claus, enjoy a petting zoo, ride a train and even spin on a carousel or play in the snow. It's a festive playground for kids and adults alike.

"There's nothing else like this around," said Anderson. "And, it's a place for families to come. Their children are safe. They can play. They can sit and watch the entertainment. It's just a really enjoyable and affordable family activity."

Organizers said the goal is not just to provide material support but to spread hope and holiday cheer. The Clearwater event is open through the holidays. For more information visit www.CCVFL.ORG.
