ZooTampa at Lowry Park begins vaccinating animals against COVID-19
TAMPA, Fla. - ZooTampa started administering a special COVID-19 vaccine to animals.
In a news release, they said they identified the animals "most susceptible to COVID-19." The vaccine being used was developed specifically for animals by a veterinary pharmaceutical company, Zoetis.
The species receiving the vaccine include the Florida panthers, skunks, otters and primates. The zoo received a total of 220 doses, which is enough to vaccinate about 19 species, which includes 93 animals, they said.
The zoo's veterinary staff created a schedule for the vaccine rollout.
