TAMPA (FOX 13) - The Buccaneers' Kwon Alexander played on Sunday with a heavy heart.
"I would never give up. He wouldn't let me give up so it's all for him," he said.
Less than 48 hours earlier, Alexander's brother, Broderick Taylor II, was gunned down after a fight in Anniston, Alabama, about 60 miles from Birmingham. Taylor was just 17 years old.
The alleged killer, Jerald Bailey, was arrested and is now behind bars.
"Family is a strong thing. When something happens to your family, when you're a true man and represent for your family, that says a lot," quarterback Jameis Winston said.
Alexander had a career-high game in spite of the personal tragedy. He led the team in tackles, had an interception and made a highlight reel play ripping the ball away from star receiver Julio Jones.
"Very determined. It was the only thing on my mind. All he wanted me to do was ball so I gave the game to him," Alexander told reporters.
Afterwards, Alexander was handed the game ball.
"He would want me to be strong. I know he looking up there smiling and happy. I just did it all for him," he said.
"That's the true definition of a man right there. And for him to be a rookie, that's even more amazing. That's my brother," Winston said.
The next game for the Bucs is Sunday in Tampa against the New York Giants.
