SHAKOPEE, Minn. (KMSP) - Skijoring--it may not be a sport you’re familiar with, but if you’re an adrenaline junkie it might be just the sport for you.
Translated from Norwegian, skijoring means “ski driving.” The extreme sport involves a skier holding onto a rope and pulling down rings all while being pulled behind a horse at speeds of up to 40 mph.
While skijoring isn’t an Olympic sport in the 2018 games, it was once upon a time. It’s only appearance was in 1928 in St. Moritz.
Athletes and spectators flocked to Canterbury for the competition Saturday. And as the Winter Games roll on in Pyeongchang, many of the athletes at Saturday’s event still hold out hope that they’ll see skijoring back on the biggest stage in 2022.
