Florida lawmakers will start a special legislative session aimed at blocking federal COVID-19 mandates, which includes President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for larger businesses.

Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida Republicans debuted a sweeping set of proposals to combat COVID safety precautions in the state, outlining measures that would let workers opt out of vaccine mandates, allow parents to sue schools with masking requirements, and withdraw Florida from OSHA oversight.

Gov. Ron DeSantis took aim at President Biden's vaccine mandate, calling for a special legislative session to ban any such requirements in Florida by "strengthening" state laws: "We need to take action to protect Florida jobs," DeSantis said. "Your right to earn a living should not be contingent upon COVID shots."

Asked about the need for an election audit here in Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis replied, “So, that has happened. It passed with flying colors in terms of how that's going.”
