Manatee deaths prompts 'unusual mortality event' investigations

Manatees are dying across Florida at an alarming rate. In just the first three months of the year, more than 600 have been killed -- nearly seven manatee deaths a day, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Manatee deaths are up, but pandemic put limits on necropsies

Florida is seeing slightly more than the average number of manatee deaths this year. But scientists don't know the cause of some because necropsies were suspended during the early months of the coronavirus pandemic.
