Tropics to remain quiet for next week

Though it is early into the 2023 hurricane season, there may be activity in the tropics as we saw with Tropical Storm Arlene, which formed last week, but FOX 13 Meteorologist Tyler Eliasen says nothing is expected to develop over the next seven days. Eliasen adds that he thinks we will see fewer named storms than we have seen in the last three or four years due to wind shear tied to the developing El Nino. However, he cautions that if we get just one bad storm, it will be considered a bad year regardless of the number that form.

Tropical development unlikely despite Atlantic disturbance

We are one storm into hurricane season and FOX 13 Meteorologist Dave Osteberg says we usually only see about 6% of activity in June and he says it is unlikely we’ll see anything develop thanks to a Saharan dust cloud and drier air. However, Osterberg adds that there is one area of disturbance by the Azores. He says it only has a 10% chance of forming over the next week and if it did develop it would not impact the United States.

Disturbance forms in Atlantic

FOX 13 Meteorologist Dave Osterberg is keeping an eye on the tropics as hurricane season begins. After forming on the second day of hurricane season, Tropical Storm Arlene has dissipated and now the National Hurricane Center is watching a small area of disturbance in the Atlantic. However, Osterberg says it’s likely to disintegrate and won’t pose a threat to Florida.

Tropical Storm Arlene dissipates

FOX 13 Meteorologist Tony Sadiku says despite a quick start to hurricane season with Tropical Storm Arlene forming on the second day, it dissipated over Cuba and there are no signs of any tropical development over the next seven days. However, Sadiku says it is important to be vigilant and he wants to remind everyone that the disaster sales tax holiday runs through June 9 to help Floridians be prepared.
