FOX 13 Meteorologist Valerie Mills says she is watching for pretty intense forecasts as hurricane season gets started partially because of record high water temperatures around Florida. According to Mills, several days of tropical downpours will be possible next week

Down pours to hit Florida next week

FOX 13 Meteorologist Valerie Mills is watching the western Caribbean for an area of low pressure that could bring rain to Florida next week. Mills says there is the potential for 3 – 5 inches of rain to fall in the Bay Area. She adds that part of South Florida may even see record rains. According to Mills, nothing tropical is expected to develop over the next seven days.

Slow start to the 2024 hurricane season

FOX 13 Meteorologist Valerie Mills says things are quiet in the Atlantic and is not currently tracking any tropical waves. She adds that the 2024 hurricane season is off to a slow start. She is watching the western Caribbean for signs that a possible wave will start to develop next week. According to Mills, if the low-pressure system forms, it could bring rain to Florida next week.

Deep tropical moisture may bring rain to Florida next week

FOX 13 Meteorologist Dave Osterberg says the tropics are quiet right now thanks to a layer of Saharan dust moving off the coast of Africa. He notes that computer models are picking up on a lot of deep tropical moisture pooling in the Western Caribbean or southern Gulf of Mexico. He says a trough may pick up that moisture over the next few days and bring it toward Florida. He said this could bring several inches of rain to the Sunshine State next week. However, there is no development expected over the next seven days.

Tropical waves not expected to impact Florida

FOX 13 Meteorologist Dave Osterberg is keeping an eye on the tropics. He says contrary to popular belief in June, you want to keep an eye on the Gulf of Mexico and the Western Caribbean because this is where storms form very early and very late in the season and many pass over the state of Florida. He says we typically get one named storm every other June. However, things are relatively quiet right now. He notes that there are a few tropical waves on the map, but nothing is expected to develop over the next week.
