Hillsborough County: Ian updates and emergency information

Follow ongoing updates from Hillsborough County in response to Ian.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY EVACUATIONS:

Hillsborough County officials on Thursday have lifted mandatory evacuation orders for all zones.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY CLOSINGS:

Hillsborough County will close all offices and facilities on Monday.

All City of Tampa government offices will be closed starting Tuesday, Sept. 27 until further notice.

MacDill Air Force Based issued a mandatory evacuation that will be completed by noon on Tuesday, Sept. 27 for "non-mission essential individuals."

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 28 and Thursday, Sept. 29.

The Florida Aquarium will be closed effective at 3 p.m. Monday, and will remain in effect until it is deemed safe to reopen. A small group of essential personnel will remain to ensure the safety of the animals.

ZooTampa will be closed Tuesday, September 27 through Thursday, September 29. Zoo officials said larger animals will be moved into their night houses, which are built to withstand major storms, and smaller mammals and birds will be moved into ancillary buildings. If the situation warrants it, the zoo will also institute a "storm-ride-out team" made up of animal care professionals, veterinary staff, maintenance and a safety team comprising of EMTs and security personnel.

Tampa International Airport will suspend all operations starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday to prepare airfields and terminals ahead of the storm. No visitors will be able to access the main terminal, airsides and parking garages. 

Westshore Plaza will be closed Tuesday, September 27, as they prepare for Hurricane Ian. 

Moffitt Cancer Center will close Wednesday, Sept. 28, and Thursday, Sept. 29. With the exception of scheduled virtual health visits, all appointments during this time have been canceled

Tampa VA Main Hospital Specialty Clinics, Outpatient Clinics, and Services, to include COVID-19 drive-thru vaccinations, will be closed or suspended in advance of Hurricane Ian Wednesday, September 28, and Thursday, September 29.

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will close at 8 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2022. The hotel will remain open with limited guest services for current hotel guests. 

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY SHELTERS:

Hillsborough County is concluding shelter operations or transitioning shelter availability for evacuees who continue to need assistance. "Residents whose homes have been damaged are encouraged to find a safe place to stay. That place might be with family, friends, or at a nearby hotel," officials said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY SANDBAGS:

All sandbag locations in the county closed at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY SCHOOLS:

Hillsborough County schools will be closed from Monday, September 26, through Friday, September 30. All extracurricular activities have been canceled.  

The Diocese of St. Petersburg ordered all Catholic Schools and Early Learning Centers to close from Tuesday, September 27 through Thursday, September 29. This includes Catholic schools in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties.

City of Tampa opened "out of school" campsites for families impacted by public school closures. Families must live in the Tampa city limits and must pack food for children to attend. The following sites will be open daily – Monday, Sept. 26 and Tuesday, Sept. 27 – from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade:

The University of Tampa has canceled classes, activities and events beginning Monday, September 26. They expect to resume full campus operations by Monday, October 3.

The University of South Florida has canceled all classes from Tuesday, September 27 until Monday, October 3. Residence halls and residential dining facilities on the USF Tampa and USF St. Petersburg campuses currently remain open. USF Health clinical facilities will close Wednesday, Sept. 28 and Thursday, Sept. 29.

Stetson Law's Tampa Law Center campuses closed Tuesday - Thursday, September 27-29. There will be no classes on Tuesday, September 27 and Wednesday, September 28. Events are canceled Tuesday through Thursday when the campus is closed.

Tampa

The city of Tampa asks residents with a storm drain on their property to check to ensure that the drain is clear of all debris, including leaves and trash.

Tampa residents may report flooding issues by calling 813-274-3101. 

Tampa Electric officials have confirmed they do not plan to interrupt service  anywhere in downtown Tampa — including Davis Islands, Harbour Island and Channelside. For more details, click here.
