91-year-old man rescued from sinking car
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Clearwater fire and rescue medics rescued a 91-year-old man from a sinking car after it plunged into a pond Friday.
Clearwater Fire Rescue says the man was driving near the Top of the World development off Montclair Rd. just before noon when the man's car went into the pond.
The two medics first on scene put on water rescue gear and jumped into the water.
The two were able to pull open a rear door of the 2013 Hyundai and get the man out of the vehicle. Clearwater Fire Rescue says he was in the back seat of the car in an air pocket as the water was filling up the vehicle.
The man, identified as Harry Hefter, was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital and is in stable condition.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
