Big cat gets a CAT scan at Columbus Zoo

COLUMBUS, Ohio (FOX 13) - A lion at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium received a CAT scan.

Zoo officials shared an inside look in a Facebook video Tuesday showing the number of people needed to carry and adjust the large feline into the scanner. 

Tomo, a 14-year-old African lion, was sedated and laid out in the new CAT scan as veterinarians tried to determine the seriousness of his gun infection. They say the scan is the only way to determine how bad the infection could be.

Luckily, the infection was localized. Tomo will be given an oral anti-fungal medication for the next two months and should make a full recovery.

The Columbus Zoo is one of only six zoos in the U.S. to have CAT scan technology on site.
