East Tampa father fatally shot during fight

Tampa police say they have a lead on who killed a man in east Tampa Monday afternoon.

At about 1:30 p.m., police say, Julius Carter was involved in a fight near East 26th Avenue and Phillips Street, and was fatally shot.

Police aren't sure what it was about, but they believe they have good leads.  They have identified a suspect, though that person’s identity has not been publicly released.

Carter was 32 years old and leaves behind several children.

"I still love him no matter what," said Carter's daughter, Juliuana Carter, 14.

She spoke from the scene shortly after learning of her father's death.  "I will always love him," Juliuana Carter said.

"It needs to stop, the crime, they kill one another," a neighbor said. "This is something that happens all the time. I am sorry it had to happen to Julius."

Police removed evidence from the scene as quickly as possible, given a storm was closing in.

One officer loaded the victim's bicycle onto the front of  a squad car, and drove away.
