Family begs for tips in Winter Haven man's murder

WINTER HAVEN (FOX 13) - One month after his murder, the family of a Winter Haven man is pleading for anyone with information to come forward.

It was during the early morning of November 18 when Jimmie Rogers Jr. was shot while in the driver's seat of his car, which was parked outside his Avenue J NW apartment. He died at the hospital.

At the time, police said the crime did not appear to be random. But they still have no suspects or motive in what Chief Charlie Bird called an "unprovoked" murder.

"We've run every single angle down that we can, but we're missing some pieces.  We need those pieces," he said. "We don't want this case to go cold."

The chief joined members of Rogers' family Monday to announce that signs will be going up, asking for information.  He said it was especially tough for the family during the holiday season.

"It's not fair that they have to deal with this loss while the person who committed this crime is running around the streets," he continued.

"We need closure," Rogers' sister Lashonda tearfully agreed.  "He left behind two boys that need closure.  We need to know why they did this.  Why they took him from us…why they left his boys with no father, me with no brother, his mom with no son."

"Help us bring closure," his aunt Emma Rogers-Williams begged.  "There's not a date that I don't think about him…please come forward to help us solve this case and bring the family some peace.  Please."
