FHP searching for hit-and-run driver who killed 71-year-old bicyclist in Brandon
BRANDON, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of an SUV who struck and killed a bicyclist in Brandon, then fled the scene.
Troopers said the incident happened just after 2 a.m. Friday on SR-60 near Lakewood Drive.
A driver, in what is believed to be a 2016-2019 BMW X-1 SUV, was traveling eastbound when they veered into the bike lane, striking a bicyclist.
After the collision, the driver did not stop to render aid and instead continued eastbound, turning south onto Hilltop Road, FHP said.
The bicyclist, an unidentified 71-year-old man from Dover, suffered fatal injuries at the crash scene.
Investigators said the SUV has significant front-right damage.
