Home surveillance captures arsonist torching Florida family's car

Authorities in South Florida are searching for a man who torched a family’s vehicle just outside their home.

Miramar police shared home surveillance video showing the arson suspect. The video shows a man with long hair, wearing white shoes, and a short-sleeve shirt approaching the car in the driveway after 3 a.m. on August 12. The incident occurred near the intersection of Southwest 125th Avenue and 18th Street, according to WSVN.

The unidentified man is seen pouring what appears to be flammable liquid onto the roof of the Acura MDX, igniting it, them running away.

The family spoke to WSVN, explaining that the flames nearly melted the paint off the garage door.

“Thank God it didn’t go inside,” Alexander Caro said to the media outlet. He said the vehicle belonged to his wife, and the fire didn’t spread beyond the car. It's unclear why their vehicle was targeted.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-8477.
