Local businesses, citizens show support to police
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Anne and Jeff Weihe had one goal in mind when they woke up this morning: breakfast. Not for them, but for men and women who help keep them safe.
"I just feel like, where would we be without the police?" said Jeff Weihe after he and wife Anne dropped off two dozen Krispy Kreme donuts at Tampa Police Department headquarters.
TPD officers aren't the only department feeling the love. Across the Bay Area, companies, philanthropists and people just like the Weihes are saying 'thanks' to their men and women in blue.
"It's easy to get discouraged with all that's going on, but to know that there are a lot of people that have the same feelings for the police that we do is very encouraging," said Jeff.
Gestures like these are equally encouraging for officers after a week that's thrust violent interactions between law enforcement and the community into the forefront of everyone's minds in the aftermath of the shootings of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling.
"It's humbling to realize there's a silent majority out there that really care and support us," said Tampa Police Major Ronald McMullen.
