St. Pete PD K9 unit needs votes to win $5,000 grant

The St. Petersburg Police Department is asking for votes that could land its K9 unit a $5,000 grant.

The grant will help purchase and maintain safety equipment for officer training and community outreach.

The grant, named the Aftermath K9 Grant, is offering a total of $15,000 split between five departments with existing or prospective K9 programs across the country.

Officers and community members nominated those in the running, and now St. Pete police hope the Bay Area will click and vote to help them win.

The top five departments with the most votes will be awarded grants, with $5,000 being the top prize.

You can vote once a day with a valid email at https://www.aftermath.com/k9-grant/.

St. Pete PD said in a post on Facebook, "To [vote for] SPPD, begin typing St Petersburg Police WITHOUT the period after ST."

Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. November 7.
