Suspect arrested after returning to scene of crime
LAKE WALES (FOX 13) - What was he thinking? That's what detectives are asking after a suspected robber returned to the scene of one of his crimes to rob the place a second time.
Investigators said Trevontay Shuler was arrested on Thursday and charged with holding up clerks at three businesses at gunpoint.
Armed with a 9mm gun, detectives said Shuler held up Pizzano's Pizza last Friday around 5 p.m.
Larry Howell says his 16-year-old niece was working at the counter when an intruder walked in and pointed a gun straight at her.
"I just wasn't sure what to do," he told FOX 13 News. "I just wanted him to leave, and didn't want anyone to get hurt. I was afraid if I did anything stupid, he would pull the trigger. So, I just wanted her to give him the money and get out."
Police said Shuler also held up a CVS on Friday and a Racetrak on Tuesday.
It's what he did next that did him in. On Thursday, police say they were watching the Racetrak, just in case Shuler came back.
When he did - around 3 a.m. - they arrested him.
"He is not the sharpest tool in the shed, for sure," commented Sandy Arnold, who runs a beauty shop next to Pizzanos.
Police said Shuler's criminal history is lengthy, including armed burglary, dealing in stolen property, grand theft and resisting arrest.
