Tampa police release surveillance video linked to New Year's Eve shooting investigation
TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Police Department released surveillance video that investigators say could be connected to a New Year's Eve shooting that injured a security guard.
The backstory: James Portocarrero told FOX 13 he was patrolling a private event near Curtis Hixon Park in downtown Tampa on the night of Dec. 31 when a large group began "swarming" the area on bikes and electric scooters, and throwing fireworks around.
Someone in that group opened fire, hitting Portocarrero.
Gunfire on the night of New Year's Eve in downtown Tampa left a security guard injured.
Portocarrero said he was released from the hospital less than 24 hours later, but he might have permanent nerve damage in his arm.

What we know: TPD said the newly-released video shows several people riding electric bikes around Gasparilla Plaza shortly before the shooting.
Investigators believe that group could be connected to the shooting suspect.
