Tropical depression may form next week

FOX 13 Meteorologist Jim Weber is keeping an eye on a disturbance off the coast of Africa. He says it’s disorganized, but conditions are conducive for it to develop as it gains strength over warm waters next week. Weber says there is a 50 %chance it will develop over the next seven days and could become a tropical depression or tropical storm.

Tropical wave rolling off African coast

FOX 13 Meteorologist Jim Weber says there are a number of tropical waves working their way across the Atlantic and added that a disturbance has formed off the coast of Africa. Weber says that the system has a 20 percent chance of developing in a week or so but says it won’t likely have much fanfare and may just produce some showers. However, he adds that it does have the potential to strengthen as it heads into the Caribbean or Atlantic toward the end of next week.

Hostile conditions keep tropics quiet

FOX 13 Meteorologist Jim Weber says all is quiet in the tropics thanks to wind shear, which is creating a hostile environment for storms. Weber cautions people against paying too close attention to internet postings about tropical development this early in the season. He says when you see one computer model suggesting that something may spin up, it doesn’t give you the confidence that it will become a reality. Weber says no development is expected over the next five to seven days.

Tropical systems kept at bay

FOX 13 Meteorologist Jim Weber says we are seeing warmer waters throughout the Gulf of Mexico and into the Caribbean Sea, but dry air and strong wind shear are keeping tropical systems at bay. Weber says it’s basically the same story as we go into the next five to seven days with no signs of development.

Tropics remain quiet as wind shear continues

FOX 13 Meteorologist Jim Weber says the wind shear is keeping storms from forming in the areas of the tropics meteorologists keep an eye on this time of year. He does not expect anything to develop over the five to seven days.
