Hometown Heroes: Free yoga for law enforcement
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Elena Vans Evers practices yoga every day. Yoga keeps her body strong and limber and her mind relaxed and at peace.
She wants other people to feel the benefits of yoga, too- especially our local heroes- so she's offering 61 days of free yoga to all local law enforcement at Urban Zen Bodyworks in Tampa.
"The reason why I chose 61 days is to help raise awareness that one officer dies in the line of duty every 61 hours," said Elena.
It's a scary fact for Elena, who's married to a Tampa Police officer. She sees how the stresses of his job effect his body and mind, and targets those problem areas for her students in class.
TPD officer Alicia Brooks has taken advantage of the deal and is already seeing a change.
"Some calls are more stressful than others, and as an officer, you still have emotions and learning how to control with just breathing has helped significantly,” said Alicia.
Elena says it's just a small token of thanks to all the people that keep her community safe.
"They signed up to protect and serve; now it's time to sign up for themselves," said Elena.
Each 60 minute is a well-deserved opportunity for our local heroes to relax and unwind.
