1 dead in Fort Meyers head-on school bus crash

FORT MEYERS (FOX 13) - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a head-on crash between a car and a school bus that left a Fort Meyers man dead Friday morning. 

The crash occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. at the junction of Orange River Road and Buckingham Road.

The driver of the car, 34-year-old Juan Carlos Quijada, failed to properly negotiate a turn and traveled into the opposite lane-- into the path of a Lee County school bus that was headed the opposite direction. 

Quijada died at the scene. The bus driver, 55-year-old Annie Williams, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

No children were on the bus at the time. 

Another crash occurred shortly after in the same location, but no injuries were reported in the second crash. 

Both crashes remain under investigation.
