3 dogs abandoned outside animal shelter in 1 week

It’s another heartbreaking story of a pet owner abandoning their dog.

A six-month-old Thursday was tied to the hedges outside of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

Volunteers say she's the second abandoned dog in a couple of days. They also say the twine used to tie those two dogs, and the sign left behind, looks the same- leading them to believe one person left them both behind.

And while FOX 13 was reporting on this story, staff arrived early Friday morning only to find another abandoned dog tied to the fence next to the intake building.

It's the third in a week.

“This usually happens once every two weeks, but not three times in a week.  It's very sad,” said Lon Savini with the Humane Society.

Savini reminds pet owners locals can make arrangements through the intake building if there’s a need to surrender a pet.

“We don’t want you to abandon them on our property. We want you to make arrangements with our intake building,” said Savini. “We don’t want them left outside because they break loose. If this dog would have broken loose…she could have ended up in the street and been killed, and we don’t want that to happen."

One of the abandoned dogs has already been adopted out. Savini says the other two dogs will remain at the shelter over the weekend, and will like be put up for adoption next week.
