Body found in search for missing boater near causeway

TAMPA (FOX 13) - Authorities said a body was found during the search for a boater who disappeared in the water near the Courtney Campbell Causeway on Friday.

According to police, the man was on a rental boat with his fiancé when they hit a sandbar Friday afternoon. The man got into the water to try and push the boat off the sandbar. Police said that's when he went underwater. The man resurfaced briefly twice, but did not come back up afterward.

Officials said the man's body was located in the water around 9 a.m. Saturday. He has not been publicly identified.

Tampa police and fire, the Coast Guard and Fish and Wildlife were all involved in the search.
