Bucs' Gerald McCoy's home burglarized before Thursday game

TAMPA (FOX 13) - Buccaneer’s star Gerald McCoy’s home was burglarized hours before he took the field Thursday night.

A 17-year-old suspect allegedly got in through an unlocked door at McCoy's home in the gated Renaissance community.

“I talked briefly to Gerald before the game to make sure he was OK and he seemed fine,” said head coach Dirk Koetter.

McCoy wasn’t home, but his father, Gerald McCoy, Sr. was there. Police say he and the armed intruder came face-to-face.

“It turns out it was sort of a BB gun, but it looks like a real weapon they got into a scuffle. Mr. McCoy had a fractured wrist,” said Steve Hegarty, spokesperson for the Tampa Police Department.

Property records indicate McCoy’s six-bedroom, nine-bath home is valued around $2.5 million. It’s not known if the alleged suspect, Justin Frazier knew who owned the property.

”He hasn’t talked to us much, so I don’t know if he knew whose house he broke into,” said Hegarty.

Frazier is from Wesley Chapel, and was arrested shortly after the break-in. He was found trying to hide at a neighbor’s house.

Police say they located his bag containing a bunch of stolen property. McCoy himself isn’t saying much about the incident, other than telling the team his family is safe and doing well.

Frazier faces several charges including armed burglary and aggravated assault.
