A 13-year-old boy faces several serious charges, including carjacking and abduction, after a frantic 911 call and car chase through Lake City that was caught on video.

The car’s 67-year-old owner told Columbia County deputies that a boy came to her house on Halloween and asked for a ride, then left after she refused him. The boy returned minutes later with a gun and demanded the keys to her car.

Joyce Ellis gave up the keys, but the boy was unable to start the car, at which point Ellis said she got into the car to take the keys away.

That’s when the boy started the engine and threatened to kill her if she got out.

The victim called 911 from the passenger seat of the car and told police names of the streets they were passing. Deputies spotted the car but when the young driver refused to pull over, they used a PIT maneuver to spin it to a stop.

The teen driver was taken into custody and charged with armed burglary, carjacking, and abduction, along with driving without a license.

Ellis was checked by paramedics following the traumatic incident.
