Florida courthouse evacuated after murder suspect escapes
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The courthouse in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has been evacuated after a murder suspect escaped from one of the courtrooms.
The Broward Sheriff's Office identified the suspect in a news release as 21-year-old Dayonte Resiles. Authorities say he bolted from a courtroom Friday before a hearing on whether the death penalty should be applied to his case. No injuries were reported.
The Broward County Courthouse was evacuated for several hours while police searched for Resiles. Television broadcasts showed discarded handcuffs and a jail jumpsuit in a courthouse corridor. Authorities say Resiles was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts.
He's accused of the September 2014 stabbing death of 59-year-old Jill Halliburton Su, a member of the family that founded the Halliburton oil services company. Su was killed in Davie, Florida, during an apparent burglary.
