Jamie Foxx speaks out after Beverly Hills restaurant attack

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif - Jamie Foxx is recovering after he was attacked while celebrating his birthday at a popular Beverly Hills restaurant. 

FOX 11 was told he was just having a birthday dinner with his family when people at another table apparently started bothering him, and that's when things escalated.

A glass was allegedly hurled at him at celebrity hotspot Mr. Chow Friday night. The actor turned 57 on Friday, and was celebrating his birthday at the high-end Chinese restaurant.

A spokesperson says someone from another table threw the glass, which hit the actor and comedian in the mouth during dinner. He had to get stitches and is recovering. 

The police were called and the matter is now in law enforcement's hands.

"We saw the cops show up and everybody started running towards Mr. Chow, and he kind of just wanted to make sure that everybody was okay," said Erin Earl, manager at a nearby bakery.

Earl was there when the commotion started.

"I don't feel like anybody deserves that. And, you know, when you're a celebrity, you already go out to restaurants and worry about not having your privacy and not being able to celebrate in your own way and that's too bad that that happened to him," Earl added.

"I've seen Jamie here quite, you know, quite a bit. And we come here a lot and it's shocking. I mean, Beverly Hills, this is not like a rugged bar area or something like that," said author Deborah Davis.

Davis and her pup Bellissima come to Mr. Chow regularly. She and other diners say their thoughts are with Foxx.

"I just hope he's okay, and you know, God bless." she added.

"The community loves Jamie, so any of that behavior is just unacceptable, it's uncouth. You know, we can't believe that it happened.. get well, and get funny. We love you," a woman said.

"I hope we all be safe. I hope he gets well. You know, I said we would like to see him out there doing his thing. Like I said, the community loves him," a man added.

Police confirmed there was an altercation between both parties at the restaurant. They didn't confirm a lot of details, but they did say no arrests were made. It does not appear there was any connection between Foxx and the other party.

FOX 11 also talked to representatives with Mr. Chow. They don't have any comment on what happened.

Early Sunday, Foxx posted on social media he is "too blessed to be stressed."

"The devil is busy... but I'm too blessed to be stressed" Foxx wrote on Instagram.

"The devil is a lie," the post continued.
