NOAA 'Hurricane Hunters' move into new home
LAKELAND (FOX 13) - The famed Hurricane Hunters are moving into their new home in Lakeland.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Aircraft Operations Center at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport.
The brand new facility includes a 58,000-square-foot hangar. It will serve as the main base for NOAA’s fleet of hurricane-hunting planes.
The planes spent 20 years at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, but had to move because the Air Force needed more space for refueling jets.
