Police have cordoned off part of a park in New Port Richey while they search for a possible buried body there.

The scene is at Robert Rees Memorial Park on Green Key.  Police have confirmed only that they are following up on a lead that suggested a body had been buried there.

Deputies have now taken over the investigation and "will be working over the weekend methodically with our forensic anthropology partners at USF," a spokesperson explained.

The park will likely be closed all weekend.
