A group of special puppies are now up for adoption in the Bay area after a journey spanning more than a thousand miles.

The 28 pups were originally part of an emergency transfer from Louisiana to New Jersey, but with the recent threat of Hurricane Joaquin, the New Jersey shelter had to send them elsewhere.

The dogs made their way to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay over the weekend, where they were processed, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and made ready for adoption.

The Humane Society opens its doors Monday at noon, and will remain open until 7 p.m.

Locals looking to adopt are encouraged to stop by!
