Sales Tax Holiday: what's included, what's not
Between August 7 and August 16, you’ll save at least six percent on clothes, school supplies, and electronics during Florida’s sales tax holiday. Hundreds of items are tax free (even bowling shoes and fishing vests).
But many items were left off the list—including many popular items.
Here’s our rundown of notable exceptions. If you’d like to know why these seemingly worthy items are taxable, we recommend you ask your legislator because Tallahassee writes the tax free list. You can find him or her here: https://www.flsenate.gov/Senators/Find
CLOTHING NOT INCLUDED:
Athletic gloves
Duffel bags
Sunglasses
Umbrellas
Watches
SUPPLIES NOT INCLUDED:
Books
Computer paper
Correction tape, fluid, or pens
Staples
Staplers
ELECTRONICS NOT INCLUDED:
Batteries
Cellular phones
Tablet cases or covers (even though tablets are tax free)
Smart watches (including Apple Watch)
Surge protectors
Don’t take for granted that an item is included in the tax free savings. Don’t be surprised or upset at checkout. Print the list and take it with you to the store.
