Tampa PD look for driver who hit elderly man, fled
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Tampa police are looking for a suspect who hit an elderly man with his car and fled the scene.
It happened near 28th St. and East Busch Blvd. just before 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The victim, William John Thompson, 93, was crossing the East Busch Blvd. and was not in a crosswalk when he was hit by a gold 1995 Saturn.
Police say Thompson hit the hood and windshield of the car and the suspect fled west on Busch Blvd.
Thompson was in the hospital clinging to life Wednesday, police said.
The Saturn was later found with a smashed windshield on the side of the road at 18th St. and Fairbanks St.
Witnesses said there were multiple people inside the vehicle when the man was hit.
Police say the passengers are not facing charges, but investigators want to talk to them and they could face charges if they withhold information.
