Terminally-ill boy dies day after community helped him celebrate early Halloween
ARVADA, Colo. (STORYFUL) - The town of Arvada rallied together to throw Jaxon Baumgard -- a 5-year-old who had terminal cancer -- an early Halloween party after doctors told his family that he was unlikely to live until October 31.
Residents pulled together and threw him the party on September 29. On the following day, he passed away, reports KDVR.
Kansas-based costume shop Walkin’ & Rollin’ Costumes were able to supply Jaxon with a customized Toy Story-inspired costume for the occasion, and images shared to the costume store’s Facebook page showed Jaxon dressed up as Woody, with his wheelchair serving as trusty steed, Bullseye.
He went trick-or-treating around Olde Town Aravada, where businesses handed out candy to ensure he would celebrate one more Halloween.
Jaxon’s mom, Amber, said her son was battling cancer for most of his life.
“Our son Jaxon has been battling cancer for about three years now," she said to KMGH, "And a few months ago we found out it was going to be terminal. Just this past Friday we found out we only have a couple more weeks. Celebrating all the holidays together as a family is super important to us.”
