TPD seeks tips after demolition crew finds woman's body in abandoned house

An abandoned, overgrown home on East Sligh Avenue was the scene of a grizzly discovery by a demolition crew. Instead of an empty structure, they found a woman's body and nearly a month later, investigators with Tampa Police Department said they still don't know how she got there or what caused her death.

The body of 54-year-old Linda Harris was discovered September 28. Police said they still need help cracking the case.

The Tampa Police Department put out a photo of Harris, hoping someone will see it and come forward with information about what happened to her.

TPD says they have gotten some useful tips, but still need help.

The body of Linda Harris was found in an abandoned house but police don't know what happened to her

"We have been able to receive some tips so that was the whole goal and the whole purpose of us putting that picture out is to hopefully get some tips and to help solve this homicide," TPD spokesperson Jamel Lanee said. "We just know she had upper body trauma, of course, we have to wait for the ME’s report for the official cause of death but right now we still just want to know if the public has any information to try to determine what happened to Ms. Harris, how she ended up at this home, this abandoned home, and just figure out what happened so we can solve this case."

Lanee said any bit of information – no matter how big or small – could be the key to finding answers.

"The Tampa Police Department believes that someone may have some information, someone may know something and that little something can be what can crack this case," Lanee said. "We do want to solve this case and whoever did this to Ms. Harris we’d like to bring closure to her family."
