Tutoring app helps students and their parents

TAMPA (FOX 13) -  Every parent has faced it: Your kid needs help with homework and it's over your head.

Now there's a new app that connects kids with tutors instantly on their smartphone or tablet.

It's called Tutit and it's being called the Uber of tutoring.

You can go on the app and select a tutor in any subject based on their biography and customer ratings.

Tuit was developed by University of Tampa student Nick Villa who was stuck on a problem late one night.

"And I thought to myself, why can't there be an Uber-like app, but for tutoring where we can get help right away," says Villa, who's a 21-year-old junior.

He found that people didn't want Facetime tutoring, so Tutit uses audio and a white board feature that allows tutor and student to exchange their work. 

"What I like most about it is that it's not going to Google and getting the answer, it's being on-line with someone who can help you understand it," says Michael Villa, Nick's father and long-time entrepreneur.

He says he knew the idea was a good one as soon as Nick brought it to him more than a year ago. The app is free to download.

Tutoring cost 79 cents per minute, which is split 60 percent to the tutor and 40 percent to Tuit.

Nick says they have dozens of tutors, many are teachers or college students earning extra money. The Tutit App is available on the App Store and Google Play Store.
