Accused drunken driver in fatal crash held on $7.5M bond

LAKELAND (FOX 13) - An accused drunken driver is being held at the Polk County Jail with a hefty bond.

A judge slapped Timothy Lundy with a $7.5 million dollar bond. Lundy is the CEO of a company that checks the safety of amusement rides around the world.

Detectives said Lundy had a blood alcohol level four times the legal limit and was driving his Corvette at 90 miles an hour when he was involved in a fatal crash Friday afternoon.

According to investigators, Lundy was on his way home after partying at a Lakeland restaurant. He was driving on Marcum Road when he crashed into the back of a pickup truck.

"I was watching TV," resident Steve Colgate told FOX 13. "I heard a bang, boom! I thought someone hit the house."

While Colgate ran to the crash scene, his wife Rosemary prayed.

The driver of the pickup truck, 70-year-old David McCausland, was not wearing a seatbelt. He was ejected and died.

His passenger, a woman, was rushed to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

Lundy has previously been convicted of DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
