Comic Con invades Tampa

The characters are out as Comic Con gets fully under way in Tampa.

Events are scheduled throughout the entire weekend, from July 31-Aug. 2, at the Tampa Convention Center in downtown Tampa, which include celebrity appearances, comic books, toys and hundreds of exhibitors.

"We're a family friendly convention we have lots of stuff to do," said press agent Kailee Baylor.

Some of the big names appearing at Comic Con this year are Lea Thompson, Carrie Fisher, and Linda Hamilton.

Upwards of 50,000 visitors are expected this year, many in full costumes. Emma Rubini dressed up as Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones.

"It is a lot of fun to wear something I made myself and hang out with like-minded people so it is a lot of fun," she said. "It's an awesome event."

Elyse Backman drove from Orlando to attend Comic Con for the weekend. She was dressed in full Elsa garb.

"I like going to comic conventions it is a great place to make friends," she told FOX 13.

The event is free for kids 12 and under. Adults registration runs from $30-35 a day or $60 for all three days.

Tickets are available at the door.
