The dog found injured, after deputies said it was tossed from a van, has died, according to the San Francis Veterinary Hospital.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said the dog, later named Joe, was found near the intersection of Orchid Lake Road and Floral View Way in New Port Richey. It suffered a broken pelvis and vets were working to also repair his diaphragm. Joe did not survive the procedure.

A post on the veterinary hospital's website said, "We would like to thank the community for the outpouring of support we have seen over this past weekend. Heaven has gained another angel."

Deputies were trying to identify the woman suspected of injuring the animal.

She was described as a "large, heavyset female" driving a white or grey minivan. She was said to be around 45-years-old with blonde hair, pulled back into a pony tail, and wearing glasses.

Deputies say anyone who has any information about the suspect is asked to call the sheriff's office tip line at 800-706-2488.
