Dolphin rescued, released by Clearwater Marine Aquarium
TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. - The Clearwater Marine Aquarium came to the rescue of a dolphin in distress at Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs.
The male Atlantic bottlenose dolphin was caught in the shallows during low tide Sunday. Two lifeguards on scene were able to set up an umbrella for him and they placed a blanket over him to protect him from any more sun exposure.
The team from CMA waited with the dolphin until high tide rolled in to see if he would swim away. They positioned him on a foam mat and gave him oxygen.
At 9:44 p.m., CMA says the dolphin swam from the deeper water where he was released out past the mud flats and is expected to be OK.
