The southbound lanes of Interstate 75 have reopened following a tanker truck crash that happened Friday night.

Officials said the tanker crashed around 11 p.m. near exit 182 in North Port. The driver of the truck was killed, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash led to a fuel spill and additional crews had to be called to the scene to help clean up the fuel.

Both directions of the highway were closed for several hours. Troopers reopened the northbound lanes around 9 a.m., but southbound didn't reopen until late Saturday night.

The driver of the tanker was identified as 68-year-old George Ervin.
